Terms of Service
The agreement between Habitask and the people we work for — scope, pricing, your three-day right to cancel, liability and warranty.
1 · Who we are
Habitask is a handyman and small-project company based in Bailey, Colorado, operated by Thomas Hoffmann. In these terms, we and Habitask mean that business, and you means the person or entity who books work, buys a care plan, or uses habitask.work.
Using this site, booking a visit, or accepting a quote means you accept these terms.
2 · What we do, and what we do not
We perform handyman work, carpentry, deck and exterior work, drainage and land care, installs and mounting, seasonal maintenance, and small remodels.
We are not a licensed general contractor. Colorado does not license handymen or general contractors at the state level; permitted work is licensed by the county or municipality. We take on work requiring a building permit only where we hold the appropriate local licence for that jurisdiction, or where we work alongside a partner who does.
Electrical and plumbing work is licensed by the State of Colorado. We do not perform it. Where a job needs it, we coordinate a state-licensed partner and handle everything around their work. Their licence, their insurance, their liability.
If we tell you a job is not ours, that is not a sales tactic. It means the job needs a trade we do not hold, and we would rather point you to someone who does.
3 · Quotes, scope and changes
- Hourly work is billed in the increments stated on your estimate, with a minimum set by distance. Travel is stated up front.
- Fixed-price work is quoted against a written scope. The scope says what is included and what is not, and what we have assumed.
- Materials are billed at cost plus the handling fee stated on your estimate, itemised on the invoice.
- Changes to a fixed scope are written up as a change order and approved by you before the work continues. We do not bill for unapproved work.
- Quotes are valid for 30 days unless the quote says otherwise. Material price moves beyond that window may require a revised quote.
If we find something behind a wall, under a deck or inside a wall cavity that changes the job, we stop and tell you before spending your money on it.
4 · Your three-day right to cancel
Under the Federal Trade Commission's Cooling-Off Rule, when you sign a contract for $25 or more at your home for work beyond the specific repair or maintenance visit you asked us to make, you may cancel it for a full refund until midnight of the third business day after signing. Saturdays count; Sundays and federal holidays do not.
We will give you this in writing, with a cancellation form, at the time you sign. To cancel, tell us in writing — a text or an email to the number and address on your paperwork is enough. We will not start work inside that window without your written go-ahead, and if you ask us to start early and then cancel, we will bill only for work actually performed and materials actually bought.
This right does not apply to the repair or maintenance visit you asked us to come and make in the first place, or to anything agreed entirely by phone, email or through this website. It does apply to the bigger project we propose while we are standing in your house. We would rather over-apply it than argue about it.
5 · Payment
- Invoices are due on the terms printed on the invoice — normally on completion for small work, or per the schedule in your quote for larger projects.
- Deposits on fixed-price work are stated in the quote and are applied to the final invoice.
- Care plans are billed in advance by card on file through Stripe. See the Refund and Cancellation Policy.
- We do not store your card number. Card details are held by Stripe, our payment processor.
- Late invoices may carry the late charge stated on the invoice, and we may pause scheduled work on an account that is significantly overdue.
6 · Access, pets and valuables
You are responsible for giving us safe access to the work area, and for telling us about anything we could not reasonably know — a dog that bites, a septic field, a buried line, asbestos or lead paint in an older building, a neighbour's easement.
Please move or secure valuables, and tell us in advance about anything fragile or irreplaceable in the work area. We will treat your home with care, but we would rather you not leave us alone with the thing you could never replace.
7 · Scheduling, weather and mountain reality
Visits are scheduled in advance and we keep them. Snow, road closures, wind and temperature can make exterior work unsafe or simply wrong to do — paint that will not cure, ground that will not hold. When that happens we reschedule to the next available slot at no charge to you. We will tell you as early as we can.
If you need to move a booked visit, as much notice as you can manage is appreciated. Repeated same-day cancellations may be billed at the minimum visit charge.
8 · Liability
We carry general liability insurance. A certificate is available on request, and can be issued directly to a host, lodge or property manager who needs one on file.
Our liability for any claim arising from a job is limited to the amount you paid us for that job, except where Colorado law does not allow that limit — and it does not limit liability for injury or death caused by negligence, or for anything else the law says cannot be limited. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses such as lost rental income, except where the law provides otherwise.
Read that paragraph as what it is: a small business drawing a sensible line, not an attempt to escape responsibility for bad work. Section 9 is the part that actually matters to you.
9 · Our work is warranted
Workmanship is warranted for twelve months. The full terms, including what is covered and what is not, are in the Habitask Workmanship Warranty, which forms part of these terms.
10 · Photographs
We photograph our work — before, during and after — because documentation is how we keep everyone honest and how we hand you something useful at the end. Those photos are part of your service record.
We will not publish a photograph of your property, or identify you, in any marketing, journal entry or social post without asking you first. Say no and nothing changes about your service.
11 · This website
The content on habitask.work is ours. Prices and descriptions are given in good faith and may change; the quote we give you for your property is the number that binds us.
Booking is handled by Cal.com and plan payments by Stripe. When you use those, you are also using their services, under their terms.
12 · Disputes
If something goes wrong, call. Most problems are a conversation and a return visit, not a legal matter, and we would like the chance to fix it before it becomes one.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, and any dispute that cannot be resolved between us belongs in the state or federal courts of Colorado.
13 · Changes to these terms
These terms were last updated on September 24, 2026. We may update them; the version on the site is the current one, and the version in force for your job is the one in effect when you accepted your quote or started your plan.
